Professorship MOLECULAR BIOLOGY (W2)

The Faculty Environment and Natural Sciences of the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus – Senftenberg, invites applications for a



commencing at the earliest opportunity.

The field of biotechnology is one of the BTU's main research priorities, which is supported by numerous national and international collaborations in the fields of "Applied Microbiology and Enzyme Technology" and "Molecular and Cell-Based Medical Diagnostics and Regenerative Therapy". The advertised position serves to strengthen the Institute of Biotechnology in the field of red biotechnology as well as the university in the field of health sciences. The future holder of the position is to represent the molecular biology of animal cells with basic and applied relevance. In particular, this professorship should deal with at least one of the following topics: tumor biology, molecular genetics, molecular processes during ageing of cells and organoids, signal transduction, molecular regulatory mechanisms, cellular responses to infections.

Experience with state-of-the-art research methods in molecular biology such as single cell analysis or STED microscopy is desirable.

Broad methodological experience in molecular biological, cell culture and/or microbiological processes is required.  Scientific profiling in a current field of research in molecular biology, which allows for links to other professorships in the biotechnology course of studies and to the Health Campus Brandenburg, is expected. In addition, the participation in teaching at the Institute of Biotechnology with courses such as "Molekularbiologie/Molecular Biology", "Signal Transduction" or "Bioinformatics" in the German-language Bachelor's and English-language Master's degree program in Biotechnology as well as, if applicable, other biomedical courses is required. Participation in the further development of teaching and research concepts as well as university self-administration is expected.

Experience in the acquisition and realization of third-party funded projects is expected. Fields of research should be relevant for the DFG (German Research Foundation) or similar international research funding organizations.

The future holder of the position has several years of international scientific activity after obtaining a doctorate in molecular biology. biochemistry or another relevant scientific discipline.

She or he should be distinguished by the originality and autonomy of the research work carried out to date and at the same time combine leadership responsibility with the ability to work in a team in a multidisciplinary research network.

Long-standing international research contacts are desirable for the expansion of the Institute of Biotechnology's international cooperative relationships. The Institute of Biotechnology with its laboratories is located on the Senftenberg campus and in the close neighbourhood of the city's innovation centre. The main part of teaching therefore takes place in Senftenberg, but cooperation with institutes in Cottbus and participation in the university self-administration also requires spatial flexibility.
