Potsdam University of Applied Sciences (FHP) is an innovative, forward-looking and practically oriented university. Since it was founded in 1991, the university has become an important pillar in the knowledge landscape of the region. At the present time students have a choice of 32 Bachelor's, Master's and diploma courses offering strong career prospects. With 100 professors we currently serve around 3,800 students. The professors are supported in this by approximately 250 further members of staff. FHP guarantees clear structures, small seminar groups, interdisciplinarity and close partnerships between teachers and students.

The Faculty of Information Science at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill the following post for the 2021/22 winter semester:

 Part time “Usability and User Experience” professorship (W2)

Reference 36/2020

The post entails teaching 5 semester periods per week, initially for a duration of 5 years.

The professorship is attached to the study programme in Information and Data Management. The holder of the professorship will predominantly undertake teaching tasks and will be expected to reinforce the link to practice in the following subject areas:

 

  • Usability and user experience of information services
  • Web design and development

A significant part of the teaching should be delivered in the form of projects with partners from professional practice; use of the department’s own information workshop for experimental information behaviour research is encouraged. Supervising final dissertations is also part of the range of activities in this post.

  • varied activities in support of digital and didactic teaching as well as research funding.

We expect candidates to have

  • several years of relevant practical, professional experience and a current, full-time role in the subject area outside of higher education;
  • proven teaching experience;
  • a combination of high level information technology and information science expertise, preferably with an information science background;
  • the ability to integrate and work in a team;
  • compliance with the conditions of employment as set out in § 41, paragraph 1, points 1 to 3 and 4b plus § 54, paragraph 1of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG).

The professorship is initially limited to five years. It may be possible to offer the post holder an extension to his or her position subject to the availability of budgetary means, a positive evaluation and continuing incorporation in the development and staff planning of the University without the post being re-advertised.
