The successful candidate is expected to conduct innovative research in integrated crop systems analysis and modelling across field, landscape, regional and global scales. Model developments and applications should focus on issues related to food security, sustainable intensification and climate change. They should integrate crop systems processes with socio-economic relationships and consider interactions with policy makers and other stakeholders. An important focus is on risk assessment to climate change across world regions, with particular emphasis on smallholder farming systems. A profound understanding of crop production systems in developed and particularly in developing countries, will be required as well as expertise in model development, model integration and field experimentation. Proof of active involvement and contribution to international programmes, networks and initiatives as relevant for this position is essential.
The position will be located at ZALF in Müncheberg, close to Berlin. The candidate will become co-head of the Research Area 3 "Landscape Research Synthesis" at ZALF. The joint professorship will be filled under the Jülich Model, with a teaching obligation of a minimum of 2 hours per week and semester at the BTU, generally in English language. Teaching may be clustered to specific time slots within the semester. It is expected that the successful candidate fosters research cooperation between ZALF and BTU in the field of integrated cropping systems modelling. For further information contact:

Other duties result from the requirements set by § 42 Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz (Higher Education Act of the State of Brandenburg - BbgHG) in conjunction with § 3 BbgHG. Prerequisites and conditions of employment follow §§ 41 paragraph 1 (no. 1 - 4a) and 43 of the BbgHG. Particularly, candidates need to document a Habilitation or comparable scientific achievements and a clear scientific profile. An excellent record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and experience in the acquisition and realization of third-party funded projects in the field is expected. The field of research should be relevant for DFG (German Research Foundation) funding.
